Breaking down the script

Posted by admin under: Black Site; Filmmaking .

This week I been focusing on breaking down the script. A few years back, I picked up this great book from IFP / West “Independent Filmmaker’s Manual.”

Inside, it shows how to break down a script, create a budget and shooting schedule. Additionally it has several templates and contacts, for you to use on your own film.

So what exactly is breaking down the script? In a nutshell, it’s creating an itemized list of every element from your script. This will include; props, actors, locations and anything and everything in between. This will give you an overview of what is needed to make the film possible.

Here’s a step by step guide to show you how to break down your own script.

In the next few days, I’ll post my script’s breakdown.
